Soprano Maria Williams Kennedy

 is currently the Director of The Bel Canto Studio of Voice in Grand Forks and had been a Visiting Professor of Voice at the esteemed Indiana University School of Music for 7 years previous to her returning to Grand Forks. Ms. Williams Kennedy performed numerous roles with the Indiana University Opera Theater including Constance in The Abduction from the Seraglio, Mimi in LaBoheme, and Cio Cio San in Madama Butterfly.

Ms. Williams Kennedy has been a Metropolitan Opera National Finalist in 1993 and 1996 and was the recipient of an Artist's Development Award from the Metropolitan Opera in 1995.  Ms. Williams Kennedy has been a Finalist in the National Association of Teacher's of Singing Competition, a National Winner in the North American Bel Canto Foundation, a National Semi-Finalist in the Pavarotti Competition in Philadelphia, and a National Finalist in the Licia Albanese Puccini Competition in New York.  Ms. Williams Kennedy made her Verdi Requiem Debut in Chicago in 1994 and debuted with Arizona Opera as Leonora in Verdi's Il Trovatore in 1995.

A frequent recitalist and soloist Ms. Williams Kennedy has performed with the Indianapolis Symphony under Erich Kunzel of the Cincinnati Pops and many other opera, oratorio, and orchestral performances across the US.   She also attended summer opera programs at Inspiration Point Fine Arts Colony in Eureka Spring, Arkansas, The Vocal Academy in Santa Barbara, California, and The North American Bel Canto Society Summer Arts Program in Chicago.

Ms. Williams Kennedy founded the Bel Canto Studio of Voice in 1999 and has served on the Voice Faculty of the University of North Dakota‚Äôs Music Department and is a much sought after Vocal Judge and Clinician.  She also served as Vocal Coordinator of the Summer Performing Arts Program, a program very dear to her heart.  Maria is married to the love of her life, Colin Kennedy and has a daughter Maura Ferguson (John).  Maria has also been blessed to be the Gran of Mairi Hope Ferguson and Jonas Richard Ferguson.
